The mistake in question appeared on a Cleveland Cavaliers post-game show for Fox Sports Ohio. Perhaps the FSN guys should reevaluate their screening process, or perhaps nix user-content altogether.

Speaking of technology and sports, today the SEC released their post-season awards. No surprise there. However, their method of delivering the message was new: They used the Live Chat client and revealed the results live to readers and press members alike. That, friends, is an example of when sports and technology go well together. The “large socks” incident? Not so much.

When Technology Attacks Sports

Not only did Ubiles stuff the stat sheet, he also provided a nifty 360 breakaway dunk that even caught SportCenter’s attention. There’s also a fan video of Ubiles’ nasty flush, courtesy of the Siena Saints blog.

Not only was Ubiles’ finish one of the highlights of the night, Siena’s fans got in on the fun as well, much to the chagrin of the MAAC.

As for Siena’s tournament hopes, Joe Lunardi currently has them as a 12-seed, meaning they are just the type of team to pull off one of those 12-seed-beats-a-5-seed upsets we hear so much about. With a player like Ubiles leading the way, if Siena’s first-round opponent doesn’t come to play, the Saints could find themselves trying on Cinderella’s slipper. For their efforts, the Saint finished their regular season with a 17-1 MAAC record, while going 27-6 overall.

In other words, whoever plays Siena next week had better be on their game, lest they want a 360 Ubiles dunk thrown down on their heads.

Wall Or Turner? Turner Or Wall?

I do, however, know bad form when I see it, and thanks to some petty back-and-forth-ing from Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski, we have some bad form from two stock car drivers who can’t or won’t let their differences go. From what I’ve read, there’s a history between these two and that’s all fine and good. What’s not fine and good however, is using such a powerful vehicle to get some sort of payback against the offending driver.

Perhaps I’m wrong.

Perhaps it is good form using a vehicle weighing over 3000 pounds and is capable of speeds in excess of 200 MPH, to do make a point or get some payback when you’re feeling wronged. What the hell happened to smacking each other around in pit row? Seems a lot safer and the repercussions are nowhere near as expensive. Of course, what does a city-slicker like me know? Apparently, when it comes to some NASCAR-flavored payback, not much. That being said, using your car as a weapon — or a tool to carry out your mission of revenge — is incredibly suspect.

Try doing that on the way to work tomorrow when somebody cuts you off. I doubt a dented car would be the least of your worries.

NASCAR Lives Up To Its “Rubbin’s Racin’” Moniker

In one of the quarterfinal games, Franklin County played Lexington powerhouse Henry Clay, and it looked like the Flyers would advance, thanks to a last-second shot that clearly went in before the game clock expired.

Unfortunately, the referees waved the shot off, saying it happened after time ran out — something the video shows as false. Unfortunately, there’s no instant replay in Kentucky high school basketball, and, because of that, a team is being punished due to in-game officials making a horrible game-deciding call. In fact, the call was so poor, the crew should be punished for their mistake. Editorials aside, it’s obvious high school basketball needs to catch up with their big-league counterparts, because there’s no reason those kids should suffer because three referees don’t believe what their eyes told them.

As I indicated, the video shows just how wrong the referees were:

Not surprisingly, Franklin County’s coach felt something similar:

Did [Franklin County coach Scott] Chalk think [Lyndon] McKee’s shot was good? “No,” he said. “I know it was good. It hit the backboard before the (red) light went on. It was obviously good. It’s unconscionable for that to happen. There’s absolutely no reason for that to happen.”

So yeah, KHSAA, you might want to take steps to prevent such an injustice from happening again. Sure, it’s not as logistically feasible as it is for college and pro teams, but then again, the idea of robbing a deserving winner is enough to take appropriate actions to prevent it from happening again.

Use some of that money Jim Bunning saved us.

The common denominator in these naked commercials are the shoes the focal points are wearing, and considering the title of this post, the name should be quite clear. Apparently, these ads are the next step in Reebok’s evolution, one that began in earnest when they introduced the Easy Tone commercial girl (Jessica Felice) into our lives.

Reebok’s Viral Ads are Full of Naked Goodness

Luke Harangody – Senior Forward, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Cole Aldrich – Junior Center, Kansas Jayhawks
Sherron Collins – Senior Guard, Kansas Jayhawks
Patrick Patterson – Junior Forward, Kentucky Wildcats
Kyle Singler, Junior Forward, Duke Blue Devils

That’s a pretty stout list, regardless of what team you root for. All of these players have had good-to-great seasons, knee injuries notwithstanding. But would this group still be apart of the first-team All American roster if it was assembled today? How about some players that may have been left off?

Players like:

Evan Turner (Ohio State)
John Wall (Kentucky)
Scottie Reynolds (Villanova)
Wes Johnson (Syracuse)

All come to mind. But if you are going to replace someone from the preseason, who would it be? First off, there’s the Evan Turner situation. Clearly, Turner is one of the favorites for National Player of the Year, so who does he replace? Harangody because of the knee or Patrick Patterson, who took a back-but-still-productive seat to John Calipari’s stable of wunder-freshmen? What about Kyle Singler? Singler’s had a great season, but Turner’s been top-three-pick-in-the-NBA-lottery good.

How about John Wall? Does perhaps the most popular player for the 2009-10 season replace a good-to-great Sherron Collins? If so, how? Would that be based on who will be the better NBA player or has Wall outplayed Collins this season? Statistically, it’s a close, close race, but frankly, I find it difficult to believe the AP would replace a senior point guard on perhaps the best team in the country with a freshman. Nevertheless, here’s their statistical breakdown:

The same questions can be asked of players like Wes Johnson and Scottie Reynolds. While Reynolds probably doesn’t have the “Q-rating” to beat out Collins and Wall, he’s easily been just as productive as his counterparts. If not more so.

Simply put, when the players are this good, it comes down to preference, really. Wes Johnson and Kyle Singler are both great, productive players and there’s not really a bad choice between the two. Granted, the Evan Turner explosion wasn’t anticipated, but his preseason snub can be rectified, especially if he wins the Player of the Year award. All in all, it looks like the AP made some solid, safe choices for their preseason list and as long as Evan Turner is represented on the season-ending list, there’s really no need to complain.

Revisiting The Preseason All-Americans

And all of that is a very good thing.

Take, for instance, Trevor Booker. With Clemson working hard to ensure their bubble doesn’t pop, a game against Georgia Tech, a team in a similar position, means a little more. And dunks like the one Booker provided resonate a little louder:

21 points, nine rebounds three blocks and five assists. The only blemish on Booker’s line was his 4-11 from the free throw line. Booker also gets added bonus points for being so beastly on Clemson’s senior night. I’m not sure Booker could’ve played his last game in Littlejohn better than he did last night.

With that, the only thing I can say is, bring on the Ides tournaments of March. One thing’s pretty clear: Trevor Booker is ready.
